Denise Austin Bio
Denise Austin, fitness expert, has encouraged millions over the years to
embrace her belief in staying fit naturally through portion control and regular exercise.
Denise's approach to fitness was first introduced to a large audience in 1984 through her
Washington Post column and regular appearances on NBC's "The Today Show."
In 1987 Denise Austin began her very own fitness show called "Getting Fit" on the sports oriented
television network ESPN. With millions of viewers gained during the shows ten year run, this opened the door
for other opportunities, including the sale of exercise equipment and the release of multiple exercise
videos and DVDs. Video and DVD titles such as Ultimate Fat Burner
, the Get Fit Fast video series,
Power Yoga Plus and Pilates for Everybody have inspired millions to stay fit in spite
of the demands of career and family.
Denise Austin's commitment to fitness was reconfirmed when she testified before U.S. Senate to offer her
support of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions' (HELP) "Improved Nutrition
and Physical Activity Act." She was also made a member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and
Sports in 2002 by President George H.W. Bush.
As an author, Denise Austin has distinguished herself with popular titles such as
Denise Austin's Ultimate Pregnancy Book (1999), Lose Those Last 10 Pounds (2001),
Fit and Fabulous After Forty: A 5-Part Program for Turning Back the Clock (2002),
Shrink Your Female Fat Zones (2003), Pilates for Every Body (2003),
Sculpt Your Body with Balls and Bands(2004),
and more recently Eat Carbs, Lose Weight: Drop All the Pounds
You Want without Giving up the Foods You Love (2005)
. In addition, Denise Austin is a columnist for prevention magazine -- offering
fitness advice through this widely circulated publication.
It seems likely that her commitment to physical fitness began with her gymnastic training, which started
at age 12. The strict diet and regular training regimen required to excel at gymnastics
layed the ground work for her career as a fitness expert. Years later, Denise Austin
received an athletic scholarship in women's gymnastics from the University of Arizona.
As a gymnast at the University of Arizona, her talent and hard work led to her earning a ranking of
9th in the NCAA on the balance beam. In spite of her accomplishments, she realized that olympic gold
as a gymnast was not in her future so she began to plan ahead, which eventually led to her
transfering to California State University at Long Beach. This transfer to sunny California brought her
closer to her childhood home of San Pedro. At California State University, Denise Austin ultimately
earned a B.A. in physical education with an emphasis in exercise physiology. Her teaching credentials led
to jobs as an aerobics instructor, local television co-host, and, ultimately, host of her own fitness
show on KABC in Los Angeles.
In 1983 Denise married Jeff Austin -- brother of former tennis pro Tracy Austin.
Denise and Jeff have two daughters -- Kelly and Katie born in 1990 and 1993, respectively.
They all reside in Alexandria, Virginia.
After roughly 20 years of offering fitness advice and instruction, Denise Austin is remains quite popular.
She recently had a fitness show on Lifetime television network called "Denise Austin's Daily Workout,"
which was cancelled in April of 2008.
Denise Austin produced these shows each fall on location in resorts
in the Caribbean and Arizona. Recently released videos include
Burn Fat Fast, Blast Away the Pounds, and
the Hit the Spot Pilates video on DVD or VHS.

I think it is new. I can't recall seeing this one before.
Post a comment about whatever is on your mind.

Some have been wondering exactly why Denise Austin's daily workout was cancelled.
Lifetime television network has not given an official explanation, at least
not one that I am aware of. So, I am assuming the show was cancelled for
the same reason most shows are cancelled: low ratings. I've noticed that
several networks have taken shows out of their lineups before the May sweeps
period. They don't want low rated shows messing up their May sweeps month.
It looks like Daily Workout fell under that category. I guess even faithful
Denise Austin viewers got tired of seeing the same old episodes over and
over again :-)
