What is fantasy football?
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be general manager of a NFL professional football franchise?
Well, fantasy football gives you that opportunity. Through a fantasy draft you acquire
NFL players who earn performance based points over the course of the NFL season. You, as
team owner, will on a weekly basis pick your teams lineup, accept or reject
trade proposals, sign up free agents, decide which players will be cut or waived, all
while competing against other teams run by other individuals in your fantasy football league.
How can I play fantasy football?
You can join one of the many pre-existing fantasy football leagues, or you and your friends
can start one of your own using software designed for managing a fantasy football league -- such as
fantasy football league manager software.
What is fantasy football league manager software?
Lets say you and your friends wish to start a fantasy football league. Whomever decides to
be the commissioner of this new league could use this management software to help keep the
league running smoothly. fflm.com
What is a commission and what are his/her responsibilities?
The commission maintains the entire fantasy football league. Organizing the fantasy draft,
posting the results of each fantasy football game, and settling any disputes that may arise
between owners are among some of the commissioners responsibilities.
What is a fantasy draft?
At the beginning of a fantasy football season, the commissioner and the league owners meet
so actual NFL players can be selected for each team in the fantasy league. Drafts are
sometimes conducted on-line. They may also be conducted in a home, restaurant, etc., with
all the league owners present.
What is a serpentine Draft?
A serpentine draft is one where the order in the first round is predetermined -- often
randomly. In the second round the NFL players are selected in the opposite order. In
other words, the first team to make a selection in the first round would select last in the
second round and first again in the third round. This draft order continues until the
last draft round has ended.
How does a fantasy auction work?
This is another way to add players to your roster. Each owner within a fantasy league is given
a set amount of fantasy money. This money can be used to bid on available NFL players.
How many players will I be able to add to my roster?
This, of course, varies from league to league. There are no official rules that a league must
follow in this regard.
How does a dynasty league differ from a fantasy league?
This type of league operates more like the real NFL. After an owner selects a roster of players,
he/she uses this same roster every year. The draft held the next season will allow improvements
to be made to each teams roster. Like the NFL, your draft choice position is determined by how well
your team played the pervious year.
How does a keeper league differ from a dynasty league?
In a keeper league only a few players are kept from the previous season. The exact number of players
kept varies from league to league.
How do I win a fantasy football game?
By scoring more points than the opposing fantasy football team. If your fantasy league uses what is
called basic scoring, points are awarded when your starting players cause interceptions (not throw them)
, score touchdowns, field goals, and extra points. Also scoring based on performance is allowed in certain
fantasy football leagues. This means you receive points rushing, receiving, and passing yards (in some cases
made field goal distance). For example, you might earn a point for every 10 yards your running back gains.
Note: Scoring methods vary, of course, from league to league.
What are starting and reserve players?
The only players who can earn points for your team are the ones you select as starters. The rest are
considered reserve players. Knowing which players to start is the most challenging part of fantasy football.
Can I win money by playing fantasy football?
You can join one of the many pre-existing fantasy football leagues, or you and your friends
can start one of your own using fantasy football league manager software.
