Denise Austin's Fit and Firm Pregnancy DVD is designed for expecting mothers and mothers who wish to
get back into shape post-pregnancy. The DVD achieves this by dividing the DVD into four targeted
workouts and a warm up segment:
Warm up - 5 minutes
Cardio Workout (Low Impact) - 20 minutes
1st - 2nd Trimester Toning - 20 minutes
3rd Trimester Toning - 20 minutes
Bounce-Back Workout - 10 minutes
Warm Up:
The five minute warm up segment is a typical aerobics warm up, slightly modified for expecting mothers in any trimester.
Low Impact Cardio Workout:
The twenty minute Low Impact Cardio Workout is referred to as "heart-healthy" and safe for any expecting mother regardless of trimester. Some have complained that this segment Fit and Firm Pregnancy is not challenging enough. This is to be expected when you consider that it is designed to be safe even for mothers very late in their pregnancy. Denise Austin was careful to follow the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists guidelines which targets the heart rate during a workout for an expecting mother between 120 and 128 beats per minute. The Denise Austin: Fit and Firm Pregnancy DVD provides additional information regarding these guidelines.
1st - 2nd Trimester Toning:
The second twenty minute segment of the DVD involves some light weight training designed for the 1st or 2nd
trimester. Small weights and a chair are needed for this section of the DVD. Except for the fact that it is a bit
slower than toning workouts in other Denise Austin DVDs, it is a typical workout of this type. Nothing new
or creative here -- however, a great deal of emphasis is clearly placed on safety during this workout.
3rd Trimester Toning:
Not surprisingly, the 3rd trimester toning workout is the least challenging. A 20 minute workout involving
light weights and stretching designed to prepare an expecting mother for labor. It seems to be
appropriate for a mother close to her delivery date.
Bounce-Back Workout:
This 10 minute workout is designed to help a mother get back her pre-pregnancy figure. It
places special emphasis on the abdominal area. It would have been better if it included more
of an aerobic workout as well.
Pros:
Denise Austin: Fit and Firm Pregnancy follows the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists guidelines.
Workouts are all easy to learn, so most will be able to follow along with Denise Austin.
Cons:
Some may find the workouts -- especially the toning segments -- not quite challenging enough.
Aerobic segment may not be long enough for some.
